We have nothing positive to say about living here. First of all, if you're going to live here or have already made the mistake of moving in, make sure that you are very familiar with the residential tenancy act and be prepared for the building managers to attempt to violate it at every possible opportunity when you move out. They'll reference it when it suits them, but then blatantly disregard it when it doesn't benefit them. They will attempt to bully you into hiring professional cleaners and paying for maintenance costs that the tenant is absolutely not responsible for upon move out, so be prepared for that.
In addition to move out being a mess, living here was just one disaster after the next. Like other reviewers have already noted, the building is very cheaply constructed and we experienced constant problems with things breaking under normal use. The noise and dust from the surrounding construction is extreme. The soundproofing between floors is nonexistent and we could hear everything from the unit upstairs. I wore noise canceling headphones or earplugs 24/7 for the 2 years we lived here. The rent and parking fees are wildly overpriced for the area. - 2 months ago | Review by Tammy Au-Yeung (Rating: 5):
We appreciated our time at Keel but most of all want to thank Ana and Mira (Building managers) who worked extremely hard every day to maintain the building. They were always responsive, reliable and diligent. Grateful for all your help during our stay at Keel. - 9 months ago | Review by Scott Lum-Tong (Rating: 5):
Loved the building. Pet friendly, decent rent prices and knowledgeable property managers.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for a rental only building. - 3 months ago | Review by Mark Pearlman (Rating: 1):
The location is fantastic but unfortunately, the building is cheaply made and the layout of the apartments was poorly thought out. For example, the cupboard door to the lazy Susan would not open up fully due to it being restricted by the oven. This is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. The biggest issue I had while living here was with the building managers. The stairwells and hallways were rarely vacuumed. There are many people who own dogs at this building, so dog hair would build up and build up on the carpets daily and at most the carpets would get vacuumed once every few months. At one point, a dog pooped in the stairwell and it was not cleaned up for 3+ days. The thing that really got me was when moving out of the building. Me and my father worked restoration for many years and have done numerous final cleans for clients to a level of cleanliness much greater than the "reasonable" standard for tenants. The apartment was more than reasonably clean besides a few items I had forgotten (dishwasher filter, lining of the washing machine, and the lint trap on the dryer was not vacuumed).
Upon the final move out inspection, Ana and the other one insisted on professional cleaners as if they were getting a kick back from the company advising that they had "special tools like magic erasers" and other people who had professional cleaners received their whole damage deposit back. My father even went back to clean the areas they deemed to not be "reasonably cleaned" and that was still not satisfactory for them. Again, they mentioned professional cleaners to my father who has done professional cleans numerous times in his lifetime. The real kicker was when one of them said to my father that the floors needed to be waxed. When moving out of this building, they provide a cleaning checklist and on that checklist is there any mention of having to wax the floors. The checklist says to "wash floors with soap and water" which i had done.
Watch out for their charges that are in contravention of the Residential Tenancy Act, such as charging $50.00 for a mail key. Also, be aware of the heating/water/sewer monthly charges. Regardless of whether you have the heat on each month, you will be charged a flat fee (mine was around $50.00 for 2bed/2bath) in addition to any heat and water used.
Overall a great location to live in but due to the building managers being extremely lazy, the cleanliness of the building is impacted significantly. I would not recommend people to rent from keel. - 11 months ago | Review by Diane Ellingham (Rating: 5):
I would like to express how much we love living at the Keel. We’ve been here for over a year . We were able to get a place with an amazing river view with the most incredible sunsets.
Importantly tho .. the management ..Analiza and Mira , keep the common areas spotless even considering that it’s a dog friendly building .
They really should be commended.
We’re proud to call this home …5 stars - 11 months ago
